Chris Buhidar Wins 3rd NHRDA Super Street National Championship

11 October 2016 Ennis, TX- Chris Buhidar and the Truck Source Diesel team came into the 2017 NHRDA Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Drag Racing Series as the two time defending Industrial Injection Super Street National Champion with his '00 Ford.

Buhidar, who resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Sarah, has been a regular on the NHRDA tour for years spent all winter with his team to getting the truck ready to attack the 2017 Industrial Injection Super Street National Championship.

His first event of the year was in Arizona at the Desert Diesel Nationals presented by Strictly Diesel at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. He completely dominated the class that weekend, being the #1 Qualifier, posting Top Speed and Low ET of the event and then Chris defeated Ron Reiswig in the final round to get the victory.

Buhidar missed the next two events on the schedule which caused him lose the points lead to his good friend and TSD employee Phillip Franklin. At the Oklahoma Diesel Nationals it was a semi-final round matchup of Buhidar vs Franklin, with Buhidar taking the win. Chris would go on to lose to Wade Minter in the finals. Buhidar was able to make his first ever 8 second pass that weekend which capped off a great weekend for the Truck Source Diesel team.

The next event at Bandimere Speedway Franklin and Buhidar faced off in the final round with Franklin getting the better of his boss. Then Buhidar made the trip to the Midwest Truckin' Nationals and all he wanted was to gain points on Franklin and make a real points battle for the 2017 Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Drag Racing Series National Championship. With a win and #1 Qualifier points Buhidar made up the ground he needed to going into the second half of the season.

At the Rocky Mountain Diesel Nationals presented by Industrial Injection the Super Street class was one of the toughest in the history of the class as the Industrial Injection Super Street Shootout saw an all 9 second field of competitors. Buhidar once again faced Franklin but it was in the semi-finals this time and Franklin got the win as Chris was unable to make the call.

When the NHRDA headed north of the border to the JB's Canadian Diesel Shootout at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Chris and his team were ready for the competition. They had another dominating performance, taking the win, #1 qualifier points, Low ET and Top Speed. The trip north was worthwhile once the points were calculated as it put a gap of 60 points between Buhidar and Franklin.

The final event of the season is always the NHRDA World Finals and it is always a very tricky race as the top competitors converge on the Texas Motorplex all looking for one last trophy before the season is over. With only 60 points separating Buhidar and Franklin, it was very possible that the National Championship could go to either of them as the event is worth double points.

After the first round, both Buhidar and Franklin were still in competition. But Franklin was up against #1 qualifier, Jared Delekta, in first race in the semi-finals. Franklin was able to get the victory on a hole shot sending him to the final round. Buhidar faced off with Anthony Reams in the other semi-final; if Buhidar won that round he would clinch his 3rd Super Street National Championship. He took the advantage off the starting line and never looked back as the win light came on in his lane. Buhidar was heading to the finals and he just clinched the Industrial Injection Super Street Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Drag Racing Series National Championship. Buhidar would go on to lose the final round to Franklin but he wasn't going home empty handed.

After the race Chris expressed his thoughts on the season, "It was a long year but it was a lot of fun. The end of the season is always kind of bittersweet, it is a lot of fun but it is a lot of work too."

The one thing that Chris made clear was his appreciation for his guys at the Truck Source Diesel shop. "All the guys at the shop, especially Nate, Chandler and Phillip help so much. With all the work they do we couldn't do it without them."

"Without the support of my wife, family and sponsors we wouldn't be where we are today," said Buhidar.

Chris did promise that he plans on going for his 4th Industrial Injection Super Street National Championship next season and is looking forward to the 2018 NHRDA Season.
